Valtti is a family owned firm based in Edinburgh and had a small budget to launch a paint range into the UK. The paint is very high quality and the company import it from the Manufacturer Tikkurila in Helsinki (a company that is truly enormous and who has the lion’s share of the paint market in the Baltic countries).
mightysmall got to start from scratch on the positioning of the paint (the only thing we had to keep was the name-feelings). We positioned the new range as artists’ paint-paint for people who take a more creative approach to decorating their home and we summed it up with the strapline “liquid imagination”. Since the budget was way too small to launch the campaign with traditional media and clearly there was no way to go directly to the general public, we created an events strategy aimed at interior decorators and other decision makers so that they would become ambassadors for the brand.
Working closely with our old friends Material and Wendy Law Art, we commissioned painters, sculptors and photographers to create work using only the household paint. We then organised two art exhibitions where the range would be “revealed” to the audience.

We’ve just helped one of Scotland’s finest copywriters leave the country.
Iain Nevill is undoubtedly one of this country’s best creatives. But he never really got the opportunity to show how good he can be while he was here (which says a lot about the state of our industry at the moment).
So when he decided to try his luck in the big apple we gave him the glowing testimonial he needed to get the green card.
Now he’s settling in and in this is how it’s going, in his own words:
“Arrived at the beginning of the month and it’s been non-stop ever since. Already had two all nighters and it’s been a whirlwind of pitches, huge brands and scorching heat. Fucking love it.
The agency itself is quite small – probably only about 20 people in total with only 7 of us creatives which is the perfect situation – small independent agency with the clout and backing of WPP… totally is the best of both worlds and the whole ethos of the place is really geared towards doing things differently /untraditional thinking/etc.
Oh, and I’ve attached a collage to prove that your kind words were not in vein – thanks again, man.”
Now we’re looking forward to free holiday accommodation, for life.
