Old advertising doesn't die it simply fades away (continued).Click on image to zoom in

One of my first ever mightysmall posts was about tracking down and photographing all the old ads that had been painted straight onto the walls of buildings across the city (and had somehow against all the odds, survived).

Now you have to look pretty hard, as usually all that you see today are their ghostly remains (after being battered with decades of rain that frequently comes down in stair rods).

So I was very pleased to see that the removal of a 21st century poster site meant that this well preserved bit of social history was revealed to the world.

The beer was brewed by Tennent’s. And this Advert dates from the late 60's/early 70's.

Not knowing anything about Piper Export Ale, I did a bit of research.
The funniest thing I learned was that whilst Tennent’s Lager adorned its cans with the famous "Lager lovelies", Piper Export used, wait for it, pictures of Scottish Pipers on its cans to draw in the punters.

Perhaps that's why you can still buy Tennents Lager and why the name Piper Export will only be on the tip of your tongue if you happen to be driving down Easter Road.
