Click on image to zoom inThe TUC Communications awards 2010 proved a fruitful occasion for CWU and mightysmall. The evening held on 1 July at TUC headquarters Congress House in London brought all UK unions' communications teams together for the announcements of the very competitive awards and was hosted by Frances O'Grady, TUC Deputy General Secretary.
The judging panel had carefully considered what they called "very high standards of communication" in several areas. The panel included Nita Clarke, Director of IPA and former number 10 adviser.
CWU had their most successful year ever, winning outright the "best campaign" section for Keep the Post Public. Speaking about the best campaign, the judges said "a national campaign impacting on media and parliament, which both mobilises members and raises public support. Strong use of visuals adds to the sense of an imaginative campaign that really hits home. Powerful and clearly effective"
CWU was the big winner on the night and the union's Head of Communications Kevin Slocombe was understandably delighted. "The awards are a great reward for a hardworking communications team and reflect the value and effort our whole union places on communications" he said. When collecting the "best campaign" award during the ceremony, Kevin said "this campaign took a big issue to parliament, CWU members and the UK public with a high profile. The only sad thing is this government thinks it's still a good idea to ignore the British public and intends to try and sell the postal service this year. They will find us taking the campaign to them again".
